Asking questions is always a great way to drive social media engagement. People love to answer questions, especially when it's about themselves and their likes/dislikes.
The key to these questions is keeping it simple. Don't ask for more than one thing or make it too complicated. These are conversation starters.
Not only that, they are content creators. Along with each question, I'll give you ways that you can capitalize on the answers you receive to provide more valuable content back to your fans and followers.
Bonus: I've included appropriate emojis for each question. Emojis are just plain fun. I think they help draw people in who might normally pass on answering questions.
1. What is your favorite Christmas song?🎄🎶
Some people will respond with song title and artist, but most will just respond with a song title. That gives you the chance to follow up with another question. You can use one of these or phrase it your own way.
- Who sings it best?
- Who sings you favorite rendition?
Build a playlist out of the songs they share (or at least the top 10, 15, etc). Then, share a link to the playlist.
2. What's your favorite Christmas movie? ☃️🎥
- What was your favorite scene?
- How old were you when you first watched it?
- Why is it your favorite?
Create a blog post of the top 5 Christmas movies as recommended by your audience. Include quotes from the comments or answers to your questions.
3. What is the most memorable Christmas gift you've ever received? 🎁
This can be as simple as thanking them for sharing. Some people will share some really meaningful and vulnerable answers to this question. Let them know you've read their comment.
Create a holiday gift guide using some of the best ideas. Share it on your blog or do something unique with the carousel type post or Stories on Instagram.
4. What’s your favorite Christmas food/beverage? 🍪🥛
Ask them to share a recipe or post a photo if they've made the dish recently.
Create a Pinterest board with recipes of the dishes or beverages they've shared. Be sure to use reputable sources with high quality photos. Maybe even make a separate board with gluten free or vegan recipes if your audience will find that useful.
5. What’s your favorite Christmas tradition? 👪🕯️❄️
This is another question where people might share something meaningful and vulnerable. Thank them for sharing. If appropriate, ask them to share a photo from last year.
New families might be looking for ideas. Create a blog post from the really good ones.
